Safety in a power outage - There are two ways to safely connect a portable generator to your home in a power outage. The first is to run extension cords into your home through a window or door and plug in your refrigerator and TV directly to the generator.

The other way is to have a transfer switch installed. Then all you do is plug in a larger cord from your generator to a power inlet, and flip a few switches. Now your gas furnace, well, lights, outlets, refrigerator etc. are running safely. This type transfer switch is fairly inexpensive to have installed properly by a licensed electrician! Be ready for the next storm. We give Free bids on every job.
